304 stainless steel welded wire mesh combines a resistance-welded grid with the corrosion resistance of SS304 and is commonly selected for industrial guards, cages, enclosures, racks, partitions, fabrication and other applications where a stable opening and durable stainless construction are required.

Different openings are not simply different versions of the same product. Opening size determines the spacing available for airflow, visibility, containment and screening, while the selected wire diameter determines how rigid and heavy the mesh becomes.

These opening sizes describe the current listed SS304 product categories rather than the complete range of every possible custom specification.
The opening determines what can pass through the mesh and what must be retained or separated.
A smaller opening can provide tighter containment or screening, but normally reduces the available open area. A larger opening increases airflow and visibility but should only be selected when the required protection or containment function still remains effective.
Do not select an opening simply because it is a commonly available size. Start with the size of the object, material or access that the mesh needs to control.
Two pieces of 304 stainless steel welded wire mesh can use the same opening and still perform differently because of wire diameter.
A thicker wire normally means:
more stainless steel per unit area;
greater mesh weight;
higher rigidity;
greater resistance to deformation;
lower open area for a comparable spacing;
higher material cost.
A thinner wire reduces weight and may make the mesh easier to cut or form, but it should not be selected where the application requires higher rigidity or resistance to physical deformation.
For international RFQs, state the actual wire diameter in millimeters whenever possible instead of relying only on a gauge number.
For mesh supplied as a roll, state both the required roll width and roll length.
If the mesh will ultimately be cut into repeated components, also provide the finished piece dimensions. This helps determine whether the requested raw-material width is efficient for the fabrication plan.

For micron-level filtration or very fine particle separation, a woven or specialized filter mesh may be more appropriate than welded wire mesh.
SS304 is a widely used general-purpose stainless steel grade for welded wire mesh. It is commonly selected where corrosion resistance is required but the environment does not justify moving to a higher-alloy stainless grade.
The correct decision still depends on the actual service conditions.
SS201 may be considered where purchasing cost is a major factor and corrosion exposure is relatively moderate.
SS304 is generally the more appropriate starting point when the mesh will face greater humidity, outdoor exposure, repeated washing or more demanding general industrial conditions.
Do not compare the two grades only by initial price. Consider expected service conditions and the difficulty of replacement as part of the purchasing decision.
304 should not automatically be treated as the best stainless grade for every corrosive environment.
Where the mesh will experience repeated salt exposure, seawater, chlorides or more aggressive chemical conditions, buyers commonly evaluate SS316 because its alloy composition provides greater resistance in those environments.
If the project has a defined corrosion standard or process chemical, provide that information rather than selecting the grade only from a generic indoor/outdoor description.
A more useful specification is:
304 stainless steel welded wire mesh + 1/2" opening + specified wire diameter + required width and length.
The relationship between opening and wire diameter determines several practical characteristics.

A custom 304 welded mesh RFQ should clearly identify which part of the specification is non-standard.
Relevant requirements may include:
opening size;
wire diameter;
roll width;
roll length;
cut-to-size dimensions;
bending or forming;
finished component dimensions;
quantity;
packaging requirements.
For simple cut pieces, finished width and length may be sufficient.
For mesh that must be bent, fitted into a frame or fabricated into a defined component, provide a drawing showing the finished geometry.
Custom production requirements should be confirmed before assuming that every combination of opening, wire diameter and width has the same MOQ or lead time.
Even when every quotation uses SS304, prices can differ significantly because the physical specification is different.
Wire diameter changes the amount of stainless steel used per square meter. A thicker wire normally increases weight and raw-material cost.
At the same wire diameter, smaller spacing requires more wires and welded intersections across a given area. This increases material usage and can affect production requirements.
Roll dimensions affect material utilization, production setup, packaging and transportation.
A current production specification and a specially requested combination of opening, wire diameter and dimensions may have different minimum-order and production requirements.
Cut-to-size, bending and finished components add processing steps compared with standard roll supply.
The required quantity affects production planning, packing and freight efficiency. For multiple specifications, provide the required quantity for each size separately.
If the order requires project-specific material documentation, inspection, dimensional checks or packaging, identify these items before comparing supplier quotations.
A fair price comparison should therefore use the same:
grade + opening + wire diameter + dimensions + quantity + processing scope.
The current SS304 category includes products with 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 3/4" and 1" openings. Confirm the required wire diameter and dimensions together with the opening when requesting a quotation.
SS304 is commonly used for many outdoor and humid applications, but suitability depends on the actual environment. Salt, chlorides, seawater or aggressive chemicals may justify evaluating SS316 instead.
Welded mesh joins wires at each intersection to form a stable grid that remains relatively intact after cutting. Woven mesh uses interlaced wires and is available in much finer mesh counts, making it more suitable for many filtration and particle-separation applications.
