SS304 Welded Wire Mesh

304 Stainless Steel Welded Wire Mesh

304 stainless steel welded wire mesh combines a resistance-welded grid with the corrosion resistance of SS304 and is commonly selected for industrial guards, cages, enclosures, racks, partitions, fabrication and other applications where a stable opening and durable stainless construction are required.

SHUNQIANG's current SS304 welded wire mesh range includes multiple square-opening products, including 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 3/4" and 1" options.

SS304 Welded Wire Mesh serves as a corrosion-resistant metal solution, with its stainless steel structure ensuring dependable performance in demanding environments.This industrial mesh maintains consistent welded intersections, so structural stability improves under continuous mechanical stress.A smooth surface finish improves installation efficiency while increasing handling safety across job sites.Stainless steel composition provides strong resistance to moisture and chemicals, which extends service life significantly.Across filtration and protection uses, performance reliability remains stable and continues to meet engineering expectations.

SS304 Welded Wire Mesh by Opening Size

Different openings are not simply different versions of the same product. Opening size determines the spacing available for airflow, visibility, containment and screening, while the selected wire diameter determines how rigid and heavy the mesh becomes.

Current SS304 Opening Selection Direction Parameters to Confirm Next
1/4" Consider where relatively close spacing is required Wire diameter, open area, roll dimensions and required flexibility
3/8" Useful when tighter spacing is needed without moving to very fine mesh Wire diameter, application and finished dimensions
1/2" A practical intermediate opening for many enclosure, protection and fabrication requirements Wire diameter, rigidity and width
3/4" Provides a more open grid where airflow and visibility become more important Wire diameter and structural requirement
1" Commonly considered for guards, cages, partitions and other applications where a larger opening is acceptable Wire diameter, deformation resistance and finished form

These opening sizes describe the current listed SS304 product categories rather than the complete range of every possible custom specification.

How to Select 304 Stainless Steel Welded Wire Mesh

Start with the Opening Size

The opening determines what can pass through the mesh and what must be retained or separated.

A smaller opening can provide tighter containment or screening, but normally reduces the available open area. A larger opening increases airflow and visibility but should only be selected when the required protection or containment function still remains effective.

Do not select an opening simply because it is a commonly available size. Start with the size of the object, material or access that the mesh needs to control.

Match the Wire Diameter to the Required Rigidity

Two pieces of 304 stainless steel welded wire mesh can use the same opening and still perform differently because of wire diameter.

A thicker wire normally means:

  • more stainless steel per unit area;

  • greater mesh weight;

  • higher rigidity;

  • greater resistance to deformation;

  • lower open area for a comparable spacing;

  • higher material cost.

A thinner wire reduces weight and may make the mesh easier to cut or form, but it should not be selected where the application requires higher rigidity or resistance to physical deformation.

For international RFQs, state the actual wire diameter in millimeters whenever possible instead of relying only on a gauge number.

Confirm Width, Length and Finished Form

For mesh supplied as a roll, state both the required roll width and roll length.

If the mesh will ultimately be cut into repeated components, also provide the finished piece dimensions. This helps determine whether the requested raw-material width is efficient for the fabrication plan.

If a rigid flat panel is required rather than roll material, see the dedicated Stainless Steel Welded Wire Mesh Panel range.

Which Opening Size Fits Your Application?

The application should determine the mesh parameters, rather than choosing a size first and trying to adapt the application afterward.

Application Parameters to Prioritize Selection Reason
Machine guards Opening, wire diameter, finished dimensions Opening controls access while wire diameter and frame design affect rigidity
Cages and enclosures Opening, wire diameter, edge condition Opening provides containment; wire diameter affects resistance to bending
Equipment racks and baskets Wire diameter, opening, fabrication geometry The mesh may need to retain parts while maintaining sufficient rigidity and airflow
Industrial partitions Opening, visibility, wire diameter, finished size A more open grid may improve visibility while sufficient wire diameter maintains shape
Food-handling equipment Grade, cleanability, opening and finished geometry The actual contact environment and cleaning process should be reviewed before confirming the specification
Construction protection Opening, wire diameter, roll or panel form Installation method and structural requirement influence whether roll mesh or a rigid panel is more suitable
Coarse screening/support Opening, wire diameter and operating conditions Welded mesh provides a stable grid but may not be suitable for fine particle filtration

For micron-level filtration or very fine particle separation, a woven or specialized filter mesh may be more appropriate than welded wire mesh.

When Is SS304 the Right Grade?

SS304 is a widely used general-purpose stainless steel grade for welded wire mesh. It is commonly selected where corrosion resistance is required but the environment does not justify moving to a higher-alloy stainless grade.

The correct decision still depends on the actual service conditions.

SS304 vs SS201 Welded Wire Mesh

SS201 may be considered where purchasing cost is a major factor and corrosion exposure is relatively moderate.

SS304 is generally the more appropriate starting point when the mesh will face greater humidity, outdoor exposure, repeated washing or more demanding general industrial conditions.

Do not compare the two grades only by initial price. Consider expected service conditions and the difficulty of replacement as part of the purchasing decision.

SS304 vs SS316 Welded Wire Mesh

304 should not automatically be treated as the best stainless grade for every corrosive environment.

Where the mesh will experience repeated salt exposure, seawater, chlorides or more aggressive chemical conditions, buyers commonly evaluate SS316 because its alloy composition provides greater resistance in those environments.

If the project has a defined corrosion standard or process chemical, provide that information rather than selecting the grade only from a generic indoor/outdoor description.

Opening Size and Wire Diameter Work Together

A more useful specification is:

304 stainless steel welded wire mesh + 1/2" opening + specified wire diameter + required width and length.

The relationship between opening and wire diameter determines several practical characteristics.

Change Typical Effect
Smaller opening Tighter containment/screening, less open area
Larger opening More airflow and visibility
Thicker wire Greater weight and rigidity, higher stainless steel consumption
Thinner wire Lower weight and greater flexibility, but lower resistance to deformation
Smaller opening + thicker wire Higher material usage and a heavier mesh
Larger opening + thinner wire Lower material usage but requires careful rigidity assessment

These are general selection relationships rather than guaranteed performance values for every specification.

Custom Size and Fabrication Requirements

A custom 304 welded mesh RFQ should clearly identify which part of the specification is non-standard.

Relevant requirements may include:

  • opening size;

  • wire diameter;

  • roll width;

  • roll length;

  • cut-to-size dimensions;

  • bending or forming;

  • finished component dimensions;

  • quantity;

  • packaging requirements.

For simple cut pieces, finished width and length may be sufficient.

For mesh that must be bent, fitted into a frame or fabricated into a defined component, provide a drawing showing the finished geometry.

Custom production requirements should be confirmed before assuming that every combination of opening, wire diameter and width has the same MOQ or lead time.

What Affects the Price of 304 Stainless Steel Welded Wire Mesh?

Even when every quotation uses SS304, prices can differ significantly because the physical specification is different.

Wire Diameter

Wire diameter changes the amount of stainless steel used per square meter. A thicker wire normally increases weight and raw-material cost.

Opening Size

At the same wire diameter, smaller spacing requires more wires and welded intersections across a given area. This increases material usage and can affect production requirements.

Width and Length

Roll dimensions affect material utilization, production setup, packaging and transportation.

Standard vs Custom Specification

A current production specification and a specially requested combination of opening, wire diameter and dimensions may have different minimum-order and production requirements.

Cutting and Fabrication

Cut-to-size, bending and finished components add processing steps compared with standard roll supply.

Quantity

The required quantity affects production planning, packing and freight efficiency. For multiple specifications, provide the required quantity for each size separately.

Documentation and Inspection

If the order requires project-specific material documentation, inspection, dimensional checks or packaging, identify these items before comparing supplier quotations.

A fair price comparison should therefore use the same:

grade + opening + wire diameter + dimensions + quantity + processing scope.

FAQ

What openings are currently listed for SHUNQIANG SS304 welded wire mesh?

The current SS304 category includes products with 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 3/4" and 1" openings. Confirm the required wire diameter and dimensions together with the opening when requesting a quotation.

Is 304 stainless steel welded wire mesh suitable for outdoor use?

SS304 is commonly used for many outdoor and humid applications, but suitability depends on the actual environment. Salt, chlorides, seawater or aggressive chemicals may justify evaluating SS316 instead.

What is the difference between 304 welded mesh and 304 woven mesh?

Welded mesh joins wires at each intersection to form a stable grid that remains relatively intact after cutting. Woven mesh uses interlaced wires and is available in much finer mesh counts, making it more suitable for many filtration and particle-separation applications.

Can SS304 welded wire mesh be supplied to custom dimensions?

Custom dimensions should be reviewed according to opening, wire diameter, supply form and processing requirements. Clearly identify the finished size and provide a drawing for fabricated shapes.

When should I choose SS316 instead of SS304?

SS316 is commonly evaluated when chloride, salt, seawater or a more aggressive chemical environment makes corrosion resistance a higher priority. The actual operating conditions should determine the grade.

Do I need a drawing?

A drawing is usually unnecessary for a standard roll specification. It becomes useful for cut pieces, bent components, special edge requirements or defined finished dimensions.
